At HousingAnywhere, your security is our top priority. Before contacting you, tenants must verify their email and mobile number. To boost trust, they can also verify their identity, either proactively or upon your request.

Why ask tenants to verify their ID?

The security of your rental income depends on finding the right tenants. Tenant ID verification is a great way to:

  • Increase trust and security.

  • Reduce the need for manual checks.

  • Speed up your screening process.

ID verification happens through Stripe, our secure verification partner. Tenants will be asked to prove their identity using a government-issued photo ID and a selfie.

How to request ID verification from tenants

You can request ID verification at any time during your conversation with a tenant.

  • Go to your Messages and open the conversation with the tenant.

  • On the right-side panel, click ‘Request ID verification’.

  • They’ll receive a message prompting them to complete ID verification via Stripe.

On the right-side panel, click ‘Request ID verification’.

Tenants can verify their ID proactively

We encourage tenants to verify their identity at key stages of their rental journey, including:

  • Before contacting you or sending a booking request.

  • Anytime from the conversation page or profile.

What happens after verification

Once a tenant successfully verifies their ID:

  • A Verified ID badge will appear next to their profile picture.

  • You can click ‘View details’ to see key information extracted from their verified photo ID or view the document itself.

Important

Tenants must consent to share their photo ID before you can view it.

What info we extract from verified photo IDs

Using AI, we extract and share the following details from tenants’ verified photo ID:

  • First name

  • Age

  • Document type

  • Issuing country

What to do if a tenant can’t verify their ID

Most verification issues are easily resolved — for example, by:

  • Taking a clearer selfie.

  • Using a valid, government-issued photo ID.

However, if a tenant's ID is from an unsupported country or they’re underage, they may not be able to complete verification.

In that case, they can still share their photo ID with you directly on the conversation page. Always review manually uploaded IDs carefully before moving forward.

Verifying a tenant’s ID is a simple yet powerful way to build trust early in the rental process. It gives you peace of mind and helps create a more reliable renting experience.

If ID verification isn’t possible, you can take steps to verify a tenant’s ID manually. Either way, you’re in control — and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
