Yes. HousingAnywhere offers a secure online payment system designed to help protect both tenants and advertisers throughout the booking process.
In this article:
How does the payment process work?
When you are ready to book an accommodation, you can submit a rental application by selecting Apply to Rent. As part of the process, you will be asked to provide your payment details. If the advertiser accepts your rental application, your payment will be processed automatically. This includes:
the first month's rent, and
the one-time Tenant Protection fee (for accommodations outside the Netherlands).
Once the payment is successfully received by HousingAnywhere, your booking is officially confirmed.
A similar process applies when you receive a Rental Offer from an advertiser. After accepting the offer, you will be asked to provide your payment details. Once your payment is successfully processed, your booking will be confirmed.
All payments are processed through authorised payment providers, making the payment process safe and secure.
Why should I pay through HousingAnywhere?
Booking and paying through HousingAnywhere gives you several important benefits:
Protection against scams
HousingAnywhere helps protect you from common rental scams by providing a secure booking and payment process. If you pay a landlord outside the HousingAnywhere platform, you lose these protections and may be exposed to fraud, including money transfer scams.
Important: HousingAnywhere will NEVER ask you to pay your first month’s rent directly to a bank account via a regular bank transfer. If anyone asks you to transfer your first month’s rent directly to their bank account, do not make the payment. Instead, contact the HousingAnywhere Customer Support Team so we can verify the request and help protect you from potential fraud. |
Your payment is held securely
HousingAnywhere securely holds your payment until 48 hours after your official move-in date registered on the platform. This allows you time to move into the accommodation and verify that it matches the listing before the funds are released to the advertiser.
Book your accommodation before you arrive
You can secure your accommodation online before travelling to your new city. This helps you avoid the cost and inconvenience of temporary accommodation, property viewings, agency visits, and other administrative procedures after arrival.
Protection if the accommodation is not as advertised
From your official move-in date registered on HousingAnywhere, you have 48 hours to inspect the accommodation.
If you discover that the accommodation or its rental conditions differ significantly from what was advertised, you can submit an official "Cancel Rental" cancellation request through the HousingAnywhere conversation with the advertiser, within this period. Our team will assess your request based on the evidence provided.
If your cancellation request is approved because the accommodation or rental terms were materially different from the listing, you will receive:
a full refund of the first month's rent, and
a refund of the one-time Tenant Protection fee for accommodations outside the Netherlands.
For accommodations in the Netherlands, where no Tenant Protection fee applies, the first month's rent will be refunded. Please note that the subscription fee used for bookings in the Netherlands is non-refundable.
For more specific information about refunds and valid reasons, please review paragraph 15 from our Terms and Conditions.
Secure your address in advance
Booking early allows you to secure an address months before your move. This can be helpful if your university requires proof of accommodation before confirming your enrolment or if you need an address to support your visa application.
If you have any questions about the booking or payment process, you can contact our Customer Support Team. We are always happy to help!
